The Klondike Derby

Every winter, troops have gatered together for the Klondike Derby.  This one day winter event consists of patrol competitions, much like a Camporee.  Some common Klondike Derby competitions over the years have been the 3 or 6 man snowshoe race, the chariot race, tobaggon pull, ice rescue, fire building and melting a bucket of snow, emergency shelters, the radioactive river, the timber hitch log pull, winter first aid - dealing with hypothermia, frostbite, etc., two-man saw, and much, much more.  A Troop 861 tradition was to have a Polar Bear campout in conjunction with the Klondike Derby, but whether or not you camped over night or whatever the weather the Klondike Derby was always fun.
